This February, Exercise Physiologist Hannah Jenkins Lee and Registered Nurse Katie Lee with Burke Health’s Cardiovascular Rehabilitation offer five heart healthy tips to our community:
- Maintain a Heart Healthy Diet
- Include lean proteins such as fish, chicken, and turkey, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy in your diet.
- Limit trans fats, saturated fats, sodium, and added sugars.
- Exercise Regularly
- Aim for at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity per week such as walking, riding a bike, or swimming.
- Strength training can also be a great addition to your routine.
- Manage Stress
- Practice stress-reduction techniques such as meditating, listening to music, doing yoga, and deep breathing.
- Getting adequate sleep is also important to support overall well-being.
- Have Regular Check-ups
- It is important to see a health care provider regularly to monitor overall health as well as assess your risk factors for heart disease.
- Monitor Your Blood Pressure
- Check your blood pressure frequently, and if needed, consult with your health care provider for treatment options.
